Clinician and Advocate.
Scholar and Speaker.
Court Expert and Founder.
Dr. Sarah Y. Vinson has spent her career at the place where mental health, society, and the law converge — and she wouldn't have it any other way.
Dr. Sarah Y. Vinson is a triple board certified psychiatric physician whose work bridges the clinic, the courtroom, and the classroom — bringing rigorous clinical training, a scholarly foundation, and a deep understanding of systemic inequities to every professional undertaking.
As the Founder and Principal Consultant at Lorio Forensics, Dr. Vinson is not only a highly trusted forensic psychiatric expert, she is also providing an unparalleled platform for elevating multi disciplinary forensic mental health expertise that is culturally and structurally informed. Attorneys, legal teams, and courts rely on her for expert consultation, well-written evaluations, and testimony that is both clinically sound and compellingly clear.
On the national stage, Dr. Vinson is a sought-after speaker whose keynotes and workshops challenge audiences — from professional colleagues, to officers of the court, to community leaders — to reckon with the ways trauma, injustice and systemic inequity shape individual and population mental health, with a unifying framework of cultural and structural humility.
In the academic realm, Dr. Vinson is a member of the American College of Psychiatry and has attained the rank of Full Professor, built a fully accredited psychiatric fellowship program, and led an academic department to a period of unprecedented growth. In a 4 year tenure as an academic department chair, she doubled the faculty, tripled the funding sources, and bolstered community and capacity. Through her career, Dr. Vinson has contributed to the education and development of medical students and psychiatrists in training and providing clinical supervision. She is a co-editor of the award winning text, Social (In)Justice and Mental Health, a co-editor of the first Trauma Issue of the peer-reviewed journal Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics of North America. Additionally, she is co-author of several peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters.
Inspired by a national need for more court expertise from culturally and structurally informed clinicians, Dr. Vinson leveraged her brand and expanded her administrative systems to found Lorio Forensics. Her initial, complementary consultation calls with attorneys are all about determining the best fit for a given case.
"The work only matters if it reaches the people who need it most."
Dr. Vinson is guided by a belief that mental health expertise should serve not just individual patients — but courts, institutions, and communities.
